Traditional Ethiopian artwork and woven mesob baskets inside Blue Nile

Our story

A Houston table with Ethiopian roots.

Since 1994, Blue Nile has welcomed Houston into the color, warmth, and generosity of Ethiopian dining.

The beginning

Blue Nile opens its first Houston table.

Chapter one, 1994. It started with cooking people remembered.

Friends recognized something special in the food coming from one Houston kitchen. Their encouragement helped turn a gift for cooking into Blue Nile.

What began modestly grew through word of mouth, shared meals, and a commitment to serve Ethiopian dishes with patience and pride.

More than a menu

Every dish carries a way of being together.

Ethiopian food is built around the shared plate. Injera becomes the place where slow-cooked stews, vegetables, and spices meet, and where conversation naturally stays a little longer.

We honor that spirit through family-style service, traditional preparations, and a welcome that makes first-time guests feel at home.

A new chapter

Chapter two, 2018. Blue Nile comes to River Oaks.

Our Audley Street home gave the Blue Nile experience more room for long dinners, family gatherings, and the celebrations that have always surrounded this food.
